Virgil Palen - Mitchell County
Virgil has served on the Mitchell County Board of Commissioners and the NCRPC Board since 2001. He started Palen Construction Company in 1962 and operated the business for 44 years. Virgil completed a variety of projects in his business, with the majority relating to soil conservation such as building terraces, waterways and ponds. He estimates he has built 2 million feet of terraces in his lifetime. In March 2006 Virgil sold his equipment and retired from his business, but continues to maintain roads in the Pittsburg and Carr Creek Townships in Mitchell County. A 1957 graduate of Tipton High School, he also serves on the Mitchell County Economic Development Board and has been active in the Knights of Columbus, the Lion’s Club and the Booster Club in Tipton. Virgil and his wife, Betty, were both born and raised in Tipton and continue to live there today. They have four sons and one daughter and seven grandchildren. Virgil enjoys golfing and watching their grandchildren’s activities in his spare time. |
