Funding Resources

Program provides funding for communities with populations of 15,000 or less to reinvigorate spaces by creating new murals or public art that incorporate the community’s history, culture, heritage, tourism, or other community led art piece. Maximum request is $7,500 and local match required. Eligible applicants include: Units of local government; Economic/Community Development and Tourism non-profits (501c3 or 501c6); Federally recognized tribes; and Non-profit organizations (501c3).

This program is for Saline County, KS, only. It leverages community cultural development through the implementation of private and public funding granted to individuals and organizations proposing projects that “build community and change lives.” Developing artist and organizational grants are awarded annually. Smaller Horizons Enrichment Grants are available throughout the year as funds are available.

Community Service Tax Credit Program

Grants to cities or counties. Project must benefit low-to-moderate income persons (at least 51%) per U.S. Census or official survey process. Project types for Community Facilities and Services funding are as follows: Community Centers, Senior Centers, Storm Shelters, Parks & Libraries, Sidewalks & Trails, ADA Improvements (Removal of Architectural Barriers), and Non-Profit Childcare and Early Education Facilities.

The purpose of SEED grants is to support the economic revitalization of Kansas communities under 5,000 population through investments in quality-of-life initiatives. Projects must be focused on economic development and revitalization efforts through one of the following quality-of-life categories: Childcare and senior programming; Community vibrancy; Food retail; and Libraries. Max of 3 projects per application. Maximum award amount is $25,000 with a 10% match requirement. Must complete the projects within 12 months.

Low interest loans available in areas of up to 20,000 in population. Develops essential rural community facilities including categories of health care, community facilities, telecommunications, public safety and public services. Maximum term for all loans is 40 years. Grant assistance may be available for up to 75% of project costs. Grant eligibility based on median household income, as well as loan payback ability. Grant funding only available in conjunction with loan financing.

Grants to help communities address an immediate threat to health or safety resulting from a sudden and severe emergency. The need must be certified by the state agency that has regulatory oversight. Must explore all funding opportunities before contacting Department of Commerce. The maximum amount awarded is $100,000.
