Grants to help communities address an immediate threat to health or safety resulting from a sudden and severe emergency. The need must be certified by the state agency that has regulatory oversight. Must explore all funding opportunities before contacting Department of Commerce. The maximum amount awarded is $400,000.
Deadline: As needed. Due to the emergency nature of such projects, applications are reviewed promptly.

Program helps eligible communities prepare for, or recover from, an emergency that threatens the availability of safe, reliable drinking water for households and businesses. Funds may be used for water transmission line grants up to $150,000 for construction of waterline extensions, repairs to breaks or leaks in existing water distribution lines, and related maintenance necessary to replenish water supply OR water source grants up to $500,000 for construction of a new water source, intake and/or treatment facility. Rural areas and towns with 10,000 or fewer people are eligible
