NCRPC Housing Initiative

cover image for NCRPC Housing Initiative program The North Central Regional Planning Commission, through its NCRPC Housing Initiative, is proud to introduce two new pilot programs aimed at improving housing. The pilot programs include financial assistance for demolition and moderate-income rehabilitation in six Kansas counties. The programs are administered by the North Central Regional Planning Commission through a partnership with the Dane G. Hansen Foundation.

» Pilot programs are now available to access in the following Kansas counties:

  • Jewell – All slots are currently FULL for the Moderate Housing Rehabilitation Pilot Program in Jewell County pending review and additional applications for the program are not being accepted at this time. Applications ARE still being accepted for the Demolition Pilot Program in Jewell County.

Assistance is available on a first come, first served basis and is limited on a per county basis.  

It is anticipated that the NCRPC Housing Initiative will be expanded to remaining counties in the Dane G. Hansen Foundation service area through a phased rollout over the next four years.

Programs Available

Property owners in eligible counties (Cloud, Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Russell and Smith) may apply for a grant reimbursement of up to $5,000 per property to demolish a dilapidated structure (e.g., house, etc.).

This is not an income-based program; anyone may qualify. Additional program details are included in the application.

Assistance is available on a first come, first served basis and is limited on a per county basis.

The Moderate Income Housing Rehabilitation Program offers reimbursement grants of up to $12,500 to homeowners in eligible counties to complete minor housing upgrades (e.g., roofing, siding, or heating and air units, etc.).

Homeowner must provide 10% of project total up to $1,250. Homeowners must certify their commitment to provide the 10% match, as well as pay any costs above and beyond the $12,500 grant.

Rental properties are not eligible for this program. Self-help (homeowner supplying the needed labor with the program supplying reimbursement for materials) is allowed.

Households must meet moderate income guidelines to be eligible to apply. Proof of household income will be determined from the last annual tax form 1040. The income limits are listed below. For example, a family of five (5) must have an income between $50,138 and $125,344 to qualify. For families with more than 8 people, contact NCRPC for income qualifications.
