Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG)

Grants to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments & nonaffiliated EMS organizations. Funding categories include Operations and Safety, Vehicle Acquisition, and Joint/Regional. Requires a local match based on population served (i.e. under 20,000 is 5% match). Maximum federal funding for a jurisdiction with 100,000 people or fewer shall not exceed $1,000,000.

Deadline: Annually, generally in November or December.

Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)

Program assists state and local units of government and tribes in supporting a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on state and local needs and conditions. JAG funds are used for the following purpose areas: (1) law enforcement programs; (2) prosecution and court programs; (3) prevention and education programs; (4) corrections and community corrections programs; (5) drug treatment programs; (6) planning, evaluation and technology improvement programs; (7) crime victim and witness programs. The grant program is administered by the Kansas Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

Kansas Board of EMS Revolving and Assistance Fund (KRAF) Grant Program

State funded reimbursement grant program for licensed Kansas EMS services. Items eligible for funding include approved training programs, equipment and supplies for EMS purposes. Funding priorities include Patient Care Equipment and Patient Handling.

Deadline: Annually, generally in early January.

Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP)

Program provides funding to eligible nonprofit organizations for security-related activities including planning, exercises, training, equipment, and maintenance and sustainment. Organizations must apply through their respective State Administrative Agency (SAA).

Deadline: Annually, generally in April.

Volunteer Fire Assistance Program

Funding for fire departments in rural areas or rural communities (defined as populations of less than 10,000). Departments may purchase firefighting equipment on a matching funds basis. Grants are evaluated and distributed based on need. Priority funding is given to wildland fire equipment, safety items and communication needs.

Deadline: Each year’s application can be downloaded after October 1 of the current year.
